Maori King Tuheitia, who hosted the event, told attendees their voices matter but it was not just talk, a solution that was needed. Critics say these vows are the most significant step backward for Maori rights in decades, and some have taken legal action. The Maori king had called on tribes from around the country last month to gather at his traditional meeting grounds, or Marae in Ngaruawahia, south of Auckland, to discuss how Maori respond. “Just be Maori, Maori all day, everyday, we are here, we are strong,” he said. The prime minister met the Maori king earlier this week and said he was supportive of the meeting.

Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna recently wrote a children's book based on the 2020 election. In "The Legend of Naranja," a Biden-like banana cheats in a race against a Trump-like orange. Those moves may herald a requirement for a return to a five-day office week. Average office attendance is only 35%, according to AWA, a consultancy that studied companies in 22 countries during April and May of 2023. Still, a mass exodus of tenants is unlikely as office leases in financial districts like London’s Canary Wharf have around 10 years left. But investors fear that once leases come up for renewal, companies will cull space. If bosses have it their way, office stocks may come back from the dead.

BOGOTA, March 7 (Reuters) - The human rights ombudsmen of Colombia and Ecuador on Tuesday launched a joint alert system to prevent abuses by illegal armed groups from affecting Awa Indigenous communities that live along the countries' shared border. Some 29,000 Indigenous Awa people live along the border and are subject to killings, forced displacement, land mines and recruitment of minors, among other ills, by armed groups, Colombia's ombudsman said. "The possibility of carrying out their operations along a porous border - with gaps in state presence - favors the interests of illegal groups," Colombia's Ombudsman Carlos Camargo said. Armed groups hide arms and combatants on the Ecuadorean side of the border, Camargo added. Camargo called on the armed groups to stop attacks on Indigenous communities and accede to policies of total peace pushed by the government of Colombia's leftist President Gustavo Petro.
Six journalists were arrested after a video of South Sudan's president peeing himself went viral. When President Kiir looked down and saw what was happening, cameras turned away. Tweeting in support of the South Sudanese president, the Nigerian senator Shehu Sani said: "This may be a urinary sickness or an extreme act of patriotism; refusal to excuse himself while the national anthem was being played." For example, Esther Ang'awa, a Kenyan lawyer, said, "I expected President Kiir to have honorably retired on health grounds by now." Kiir has been the president of South Sudan since its independence in 2011.
Spirit Airlines' flight attendants union is currently in contract negotiations. In April, Spirit flight attendants around the US picketed after the airline canceled flights. Spirit Airlines flight attendants in Orlando, Dallas, and Las Vegas picketed in April after the airline cancelled over 30% of its flights because of weather, which left flight attendants stranded. The flight attendants union and Spirit Airlines management will be back in negotiations on September 27. "Spirit Flight Attendants have been through it over the last several years," Spirit AFA president Jason Kachenmeister told Insider in a statement.
